Internal Organ Detox Functions

Detoxification Functions of the Internal Organs
人體內臟的排毒功能

Toxins are detrimental to our health. To resist these harmful substances, we depend on the detoxification organs in our own bodies to counteract and expel them. There are six major detoxification organs in our bodies; each of these has its own duties in maintaining the balance of the substances in the body.

LIVER

The main function of the liver is to expel the toxins; it is the most important detoxification organ in the body. The detoxification enzymes in the liver cause the toxic substances to oxidize and turn them into Intermediate metabolites. Eventually, these intermediate metabolites will combine with the other substances in the liver to become urine or bile and are expelled from the body. If the liver is unable to function properly, large amounts of toxins will accumulate in the body.

  • Indications of the improper functioning of the liver: loss of appetite, lack of energy, coarse skin, nausea, a yellow tint in the whites of the eyes, dark yellow urine, etc.

  • Correction strategies: maintain a well-regulated daily routine, adequate sleep, avoid drunkenness, ingest adequate nutrients to fight the proliferation of free radicals in the body, to promote the circulation of blood and the detoxification function of the body.

  • Food that is conducive to the liver’s detoxification function: egg, carrots, dark green vegetables, persimmons, papayas, mangoes, all grains, beans and peanuts.

STOMACH AND INTESTINES

All food passes through the intestines; any nutrients are absorbed by the stomach and small intestines. The rest of the moisture is absorbed by the walls of the large intestines. What cannot be used by the body is excreted from the body. Indigestion or constipation causes the toxins to accumulate in the body and, given time, all kinds of illnesses may result.

  • Indications of the improper functioning of the stomach and intestines: coarse skin, indigestion, constipation, loss of appetite, halitosis, distended belly or stomach-aches.

  • Correction strategies: regular meal times, regular portions, eating more vegetables and unrefined grains, maintain regular bowel movements, etc.

  • Food that is conducive to the digestive system’s detoxification function: spinach, cabbage, celery, yam, carrots, peas, bananas, kiwi fruit and grapefruit.

LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

The lymphatic system is the body’s immunity system. Dead or useless cells are absorbed by the lymphatic system and expelled. The lymphatic system filters out the toxins and directs them to the different organs through the blood so that the toxins can be expelled from the body.

  • Indications that the lymphatic system is not functioning properly: weight loss, joint and muscle pains, swollen or enlarged lymph nodes, malaise, etc.

  • Correction strategies: soaking in a tub of hot water for 15 minutes a day can promote the lymphatic circulation, regular exercise.

  • Food that is conducive to the lymphatic system’s detoxification function: all kinds of mushrooms and fresh fruit rich in vitamin C.

SKIN

The skin expels sweat that contains lactic acid and urea. The period from 22:00 to 02:00 hours is the best time for the regeneration of the skin. Adequate sleep during these hours helps one to retain one’s youthful looks and is most helpful for expelling the toxins.

  • Indications that the skin’s detoxification function is not working properly: pimples, freckles turning darker in colour, dry skin, skin rashes, a yellowish tinge to the colour of the skin and the skin lacks luster.

  • Correction strategies: sweating during exercise helps to expel the toxins, eat fruit rich in vitamin C and paired with food rich in vitamin E, use sun protection, spinach, cabbage, celery, yams, carrots, peas, bananas, kiwi fruit and grapefruit.

  • Food that is conducive to the skin’s detoxification function: fruit that is rich in vitamin C, such as tomatoes, pomegranates, oranges, strawberries, kumquats, kiwi fruit, papayas and lemons.

KIDNEYS

The kidneys are an important organ in detoxification, but it is also fragile. A poor diet or infection can affect its role in expelling the toxins. The main task of the kidneys is to expel the waste generated in metabolism. For this reason, it is important to drink an adequate amount of water to facilitate the kidneys’ work. Eating fruit rich in vitamin C also strengthens the kidneys. It is important not to hold back one’s urine in order to avoid infection.

  • Indications that the kidneys are not functioning properly: weakness in the knees and back, fatigue, swelling in the limbs, high blood pressure, a lot of urine and blood in the urine, etc.

  • Correction strategies: do not hold back urine, drink at least 2 liters of water daily to promote metabolism and dilute the toxin that is in the blood.

  • Food that is conducive to the kidneys’ detoxification function: winter melon, sweet potatoes, yams, dates, water melon, papayas, etc.

LUNGS

The lungs are the organ most prone to retaining toxins. The fine dust in the air and harmful gases enter the lungs through respiration. The lungs breathe out carbon dioxide to expel these toxins.

  • Indications that the lungs are not functioning properly: difficulty breathing, chest pains, sporadic coughing, nausea, etc.

  • Correction strategies: spend time outdoors in fresh air, practice abdominal breathing to increase the volume of oxygen inhaled and promote metabolism in the body, coughing exercises can also help the lungs expel the toxins.

  • Food that is conducive to the lungs’ detoxification function: tomatoes, oranges, strawberries, kumquats, papayas, lemons, carrots, sweet potatoes, apricots, chrysanthemum, leafy vegetables and leeks, etc.

A daily timetable showing the kinds of toxins and the times they are expelled:

 Lymphatic System

 21:00 - 23:00

Listening to music or engaging in relaxing activities. This allows the immune system to work effectively.
 Skin

 22:00 - 02:00

The best time for the regeneration of the skin.
 Liver

 23:00 - 01:00

Time for the liver to purge the toxins; this takes place during sleep.
 Lungs

 03:00 - 05:00

Time for the lungs to expel the toxins; coughing facilitates the expulsion of toxins.
 Large Intestines

 05:00 - 07:00

Time for the large intestines to purge the toxins; the best time for a bowel movement.
 Small Intestines
